More than 40 plant-based compounds, that block or slow down breast and some other types of cancer metastasis, were identified in a study published on line last month. Some of these protective foods include: amino acids; vitamin D3; ginseng extract; lycopene, found in tomatoes; curcumin, found in tumeric; pomegranate juice and fish oil.
The study, by pharmacology professor Gary Meadows, published in Cancer and Metastasis, was surprisingly , the first to focus on metastatic-blocking foods and supplements.
“Earlier studies by dozens of researchers have clearly identified many of these same foods as helping stop breast cancer before it can begin,” said Susan Wadia-Ells, author of the forthcoming book, Busting Breast Cancer: 7 Simple Steps to protect our daughters from this unnecessary disease, and founding director of the National Breast Cancer Prevention Project/Busting Breast Cancer.
“It’s comforting to know that women can enjoy both preventative and critical life-saving benefits from eating these healthy and inexpensive foods and supplements,” said Wadia-Ells.
